Schwinn seemed to have a very close relasionship with the "english" tyre size. When all american companies went to the middle/weight tyre size , schwinn used the british rim size (F10) that was standard on all british heavy roadesters/delivery bikes. All other american companies used the same rim size they had used in the 30s on bikes built with 26" single tube tyres. So it's not supprising at all that schwinn would embrace the british 27" tyre size over the 700s.What is interesting is Canadian bicycles used the 700 tyre size even though many of the parts(rims) were imported from england.
