Subject: [CR]Campy Triple Identification ...

Another telltale sign of an authentic campy triple, besides the short spider flutes, is spider arms with less taper (e.g. spider arms are wider at the most narrow point.) Campy actually did not taper the spider arms as much on the triple cranksets, in order to strengthen the area to be drilled. This is much harder to notice than the shorter fluting.

I looked at my paramount P-15 last weekend, and the lock rings on the bottom bracket are the extra-thick 4 mm or 4.5 mm ones (3.5mm is standard). They are the chunkiest BB lockrings that i've ever seen.

Has anyone ever had a double-modified-to-triple crankset crack or split at the drilling eyes ?? I'd imagine that the torques would not be high on the inner spider, so campy's reinforcements may not have been necessary.
