It seems to me that this has devolved into a more general argument about the "betterness coefficient" of old vs new equipment. Unless agreement as to a precise definition, and context of use, of the "betterness coefficient" is reached it's unlikely that much enlightenment, or understanding of the perspectives of others, will occur.
