You can still lace up lightweight tubulars. The cyclocross tubulars that I'm now on my second season weigh about 1400 grams for the pair. They cost $499 and come with three tubulars. When mounted with a reasonably light tubulars, they are lighter than the lightest clinchers on the market all of which have rider weight limitations.

I've compiled a Excel list of the weights of about 70 wheelsets. Most of them I have weighed personally. It could be better organized. I always wanted to make a graph showing weight versus cost. The $200 wheels always win but I suspect someone could find a way around this. Anyone who is interested in this list can email and I'll send it as an attachment.

So far the lightest 700c wheelset I've weighed was just under 1100 grams and I weighed a 650c wheelset that was very close to 1000 grams. I'm looking for a wheelset to break the 1000g barrier.

One thing about the old lightweight tubular rims: we were always happy to get a season out of a set of rims. They weren't very durable. Today's 400 gram tubular rims are very durable.
