Subject: [CR]27-in wheels, redux

About a week ago, there was a discussion about the introduction of the 27-in wheel to the British market, and the whole 27 x 1 1/4 vs. 700C issue. Today's mail brought me a copy of the CTC Gazette from September 1937. From an advertisement for Constrictor Detachable Hand-Made Tyres -

"... The call at this moment is for a 27in. wheel, and this size is made in two sizes, one being known as the French standard, and the other, the high pressure Rim size. The Covers for these two wheels have entirely different sized Wires. With the exception of the Python and the Concord, the remaining six of our hand-made Tyres can be made to your requirements ..."

If today's CTC currently publishes anything half as delightful to read through as this magazine, I need to join them tomorrow.
