Subject: [CR]Mike Appel Frame:Why no chainstay bridge?

I have a 1995 Mike Appel"ex-keeper of the flame",custom frame with some curious characteristics: No chainstay bridge- Curious geometry- 57cm ctc seat tube, 59cm ctc top tube, 41cm chainstays, 52.5 cm seat stays, 101cm wheelbase, Tight in the rear, longgg in the front. Columbus SL tubing, according to tubing decal. No eyelets on dropouts or fork ends.130mm rear spacing. Any ideas as to how this frame was meant to be used based on these quirks?

Thanks,
