The idea of the "Ruban Jaune" Yellow Ribbon was probably copied from the speed record for ships crossing the Atlantic (Blue Riband). Conditions are very strict. The speed must be set in a race or stage of at least 200 kilometers . Time has to be certified by two separate timekeepers with current certified calibrated time pieces. There has been an unofficial agreement for many years now that only accepted "Classics" would qualify. Because of these demanding standards races such as the Ardennes classics would not count due to difficult terrain and variable wind speeds I have no clear official definition of the rules but this covers the basics. I am sure someone on the list will provide them. Surprised you have never heard of this in the USA. This all started with are old bikes faster? Has anybody beaten Peter Post Paris Roubaix 1964 record?

Best wishes and be lucky. Michael Butler Huntingdon UK.
