Subject: [CR]GARIN frames - Is Oscar Casander out there?

In my reply recently about the Charles Garin frame company of Paris, I stated that it was probably best known or supplying the Dutch rider Wim Van Est.

I received an email off List from Oscar Casander who has located one of Van Est's frames - apparently it was found hanging up in the Van Est's garage years after he had finished riding and is now on display, it is thought in a Dutch museum.

The fascinating aspect of the frame is that it is the one on which Van Est crashed out of the Tour de France in 1952(?). Oscar sent me two Jpegs that he had taken showing the somewhat worse-for-wear machine. These photos were absolutey superb because they showed in some detail the very fine lugwork on the frame's head-tube. The pictures really should be on the ClassicRendezvous site for all to see.

So, Oscar, if you are out there and you read this... thanks enormously for the Jpegs, they really made my day - and please send them into the List... and let me have your email address..please.
