I use a plastic-faced hammer to tap them back in. It takes a bit of
patience and a light touch, but there is nothing particularly difficult
about it. If they go in too far, I pop them back out and start over.

They come out with no problem at all. I use a small slide hammer, made for
removing small pressed-in bearings, bushings, seals and the like. Snap-On
Tools makes one:

but their stuff tends to be rather expensive (I bought mine back when I used such things to make my living). I'm sure you can find something similar somewhere.
