Subject: [CR]Bent Nervar?

Sadly, I conceded that the Nervar crank spindle is probably bent so I removed it (again!). Since its so short its hard to see any runout when rolled. Placing on a straightedge and using feeler-gages it appears bent. Probably the best indication is the wear pattern on the spindle races. There appears to be portions of each race diametrically opposite each other where the bearing track almost dissappears! BTW, the finish of the races looks like the surface of the moon...and its a low milage bike still shod with french-made michelins!

Rather than spend more time on this $24 bicycle I'm going to replace the spindle. Comparing with my stock of spares, the Nevar, Campy, Suntour GPX and Sugino taper all appear to be identical. However, the Nervar at 117mm marked (118mm measured) is longer than all except the Sugino which is for a triple. I'll hit the LBSs tomorrow although they don't have much stock or interest in this "old stuff". Ordinarily I wouldn't bother but this '83 Jubilee Sport is pretty and rides very nice (typical french IMO). Thanks again to all list members for your help.
