Subject: [CR]Witcomb USA framebuilder ID?

Hi all, My mechanic at the LBS recently picked up (read: stole) a very nice Witcomb USA bike for $400. It's a full Campy N.R. bike with a patent '73 derailleur.

Is there any way to tell who made this frame? Did the various builders each have their own trademark "signature" on the frames or did they all come out looking relatively the same?

My friend says the frame rides wonderfully, very soft and plush. It's funny how people set up their bikes. He realizes that the frame has some historical value and all, yet I managed to swap an old Shimano 600 brakeset and $20 for the Campy calipers off the bike. He needed the aero levers! He's going to set it up with a triple crank, big fat cyclocross tires, a riser stem, and racks front and rear. Yuck! This same guy recently passed on 2 full Campy N.R. bikes whos makes escape me at the moment and a box full of Campy parts. The seller wanted $350! It makes me want to get a part time job at a LBS, the pay may suck but man the deals you come across!

Have a great weekend!
