Tom: Inquiry on adhesive is for research for dyeing cloth to colour. Yes, cloth tape is commonly manufactured with adhesive. Adhesive may present problem when dyeing to colour; and, re-application of adhesive to the homemade dyed colour also needs to be addressed.

You just wrap nearly normally (It takes 3 rolls to do a set of bars, not two) and shellac over it if that is where you are going. Yellow tape+ 4 coats of amber shellac=Brooks honey color.
