I had to time trial out to Conshohocken from the Wachovia US PRO race in Philadelphia because I dawdled overlong with the likes of Steven Maasland, Curtis Anthony, Sam Fitzsimmons, and Simon Firth on Lemon Hill. My Dawes Double Blue winter/rain hack with full fenders coped marvelously. Steven had his "Bianchi Gran Largo" fillet brazed trike along. I'll leave it to him to tell that story.

Anybody with any information / catalog scans on the Double Blue model? The cognoscenti pegged the frame as late '60's - early '70's.

+++++++ I had a Dawes Double Blue as my first touring bike, bought about '69 used (from someone who had bought it at a police auction, so it was not new then). A fine steed, well adapted to harness, pannier and wacky ideas like my 28/48 chainwheel set, and an amazing steel rod Claude Butler pannier carrier - with our home-made carriers. It visited Chuck Harris's place on the hill, and I think I used it still (with TA cranks by then) for a Cleveland (OH) to Atlanta (GA) "tour" in 75. 840 miles, full camping gear, 4 successive nights in 4 different mountain states, back-to-back 100 mi. days. That was when I learned not to tour on 14 mm pedals in remote areas. Ever seen a Berthet held together with radiator clamps? Oh, our son came, too. He was born 7 months later. Rides fast motorcycles now. Susan, my wife, occasionally rides, too, but not the too-big OTB we had back then.
