As Jamie Swan pointed out, Dave Moulton had worked as a framebuilder in the UK before leaving for the States. He enjoyed a very enviable reputation and built frames as a one-man concern in his own name.

I saw my first Dave Moulton frame at the 1976 Harrogate International Cycle Show, hanging expensively on a peg on someone else's stand. It was a thing of some real beauty .. but at what for those days seemed an enormous amount of money.. about £200 as I recall.

Attached to the frame was a card describing the frame and advsing the potential buyer that dave had spent 16 hours just filing up the lugs, which were, as I recall long point Prugnats or something similar. Don't ask me whether the lugs were filed up before or after brazing!

I can still remember the design of Dave's head transfer, it's very natty if you are into a style which doesn't have coats-of-arms and Latin script underneath in swags. Probably the best I've seen with the exception of Richard Sach's ingenious device.
