Subject: [CR]Am I really being stupid?

Tom Forhan asked if he would be stupid to keep his newly acquired Modolo brakes in the box- something like keeping a trophy I suppose.

Maybe I'm being a bit stupid posting a technical issue here, but I just wondered whether or not the problem might resolve itself. In the early 80s, depending on the particular model of frame and its application, some frames were built for "piccolo" depth brakes and others for "GS" depth, and it was not always easy to transfer stirrups from different manufacturers between frames.

Being a fan of Sean Kelly who used Modolo or Modolo derivative brakes for several seasons , I started retro-fitting them to some of my bikes, thinking that what could stop Sean would stop me. I found certain problems in the reach of the stirrups, problems obviously arising from the clearances built into a frame. The Modolos would not always adjust high enough to fit onto certain "piccolo"- based frames.

Just a thought
