The closest I've come to a really lightweight wide tire is an Avocet Fasgrip 700x35. Actual measurement was more like 32 mm and it was only available in a wire bead. The tire looked good, but had a bit thicker 'bald' tread than the narrower versions. I was using it on a tandem and found them to be noticeably slower than others though. I've been an Avocet Fasgrip fan for many years now, but the damn things are only available in blackwall now.

Right now the widest fairly lightweight tire I like is the Roly Poly at about 27 mm. and thats on the tandem right now. I'd pay some bucks for 27 mm and 32-35 mm tires built like the Veloflexes I'm running on a bike now.

Anyone know if there ever existed, wide (35-40mm) truly high quality lightweight tires for 700c size wheels? Or have the only high quality fat tires been made for 650b wheels?
