To further explain Morgan's comments... bear in mind that the "bottom run" of the chain is not under tension, as is the "top run". Only the spring tension of the derailleur cage is keeping it taught. Hence the ripples as the bike traverses irregularities in the road surface. Cheers, Fred Rednor - Arlington, Virginia
