Picoftheday 16 July Lauredi Crashes Out of the 1955 TdF
1955 was a rough year for the riders. Nello Lauredi had a reputation for spectacular crashes. During the 15th stage of the 1955 TdF, Lauredi (riding for the regional team Sud-Est) was descending at over 40 MPH with Belgian rider Jean Brankart when Lauredi misjudged a curve and went over the side of a stone bridge, falling 10 meters into the ravine below. His injuries were not too serious, but sufficient for him to withdraw from the Tour.
