My only experience is with my own trike (50's, maybe a Rivetts, Higgins axle w/ differential). It's great at climbing hills. Before I rode it I was concerned about how it would climb.

I don't know, but I am guessing that it is the short wheelbase. Maybe it just seems easier because you don't need to worry about going too slowly & falling over (there are plenty of other ways to fall over on the trike).

Any comments for other trike riders?
