Subject: [CR]A tool question

I've started to do more and more of my own work on my bikes, I was a little intimidated by the bottom bracket but I begun to tackle that. I've picked up the park tools needed for the adjusting cup and lockring but my question is on the fixed cup. What tool is best for removing this? I checked the park tool website and I think they make a double sided wrench, fixed cup end and a locking end, I was also told by the local shop I could use a headset wrench. Of course I checked sheldon brown's website and his method of using the hex bolt and washers seems interesting. Using a bench vise seems like a bit of a pain. What is everyone's general consensus about what method is best? I also noticed in the article by sheldon brown that he believes that if the fixed cup is removed it should be replaced. Is this so? I can't imagine that all of you are purchasing new cups everytime you remove the fixed cup on your bottom brackets. I suppose it should be taken to account that the article was written in the 80's. I want to lube the bearings in my bottom brackets, is it not nesscasary to remove both cups to do so? thanks for your help
