Yesterday I did the Marin Century, one of the most beautiful rides I know. (There are four routes, 100K, 100M, 200K, 200M. I rode the 100M.) At the 3rd rest stop, around 75 miles in, I saw a beautiful, light blue Colnago with long point lugs, nuovo record, straight skewers, etc. Then I saw a rough face I recognized. "Charlie Kelly! I grew up reading Fat Tire Flyer." Later, "So, is that your Colnago?" He's had it since he bought it new in 1971 from Velo Sport, it's original but for a Cyclart repaint and clincher rims. He was wearing an old Sunshine (bike shop in Fairfax, CA) jersey and well-worn Sidi cleats. I told him it was the coolest bike I'd seen all day. We talked a little while about Ricky Cha and Masis, then we both then rolled on. He and his bike are both legendary.

It was a great ride, too. I rode my modern Landshark but maybe next year I'll ride the Masi.
