Subject: [CR]bb question

Would there be a specific reason or use, beyond expedience, for having a Campagnolo Italian spindle (one marked 70) matched to English-threaded cups? One of my more recent acquisitions has been a new-to-me J.P. Weigle frame, and when I took the bottom bracket apart, I noticed that the spindle was marked 70 and the cups are marked for English threading. Before I put it back together, I'd like to know what purpose, beyond not having an English spindle, this might have served. It does seem to fit correctly.

Thank you.

Cheers.
