I vaguely remembered that I had a 980 rear der in one of my boxes, but when I tracked it down, it didn't look like my memories of a 980. Can someone tell me what I've got?
It's got Nuovo Record architecture -- basic Campy parallelogram architecture. However, it doesn't have the NR textured and detailed face on the outside of the parallelogram, or the curved shape, or the fine finish. All of the bits and pieces are kind of chunky and flat and squared-off, with a "B" or maybe even "C" finish -- casting marks can be seen along the sides of faces of the parallelogram. Where an NR would say "Campagnolo Nuovo Record", instead, on the flat outside face, there is simply a script "Campagnolo", which appears to be highlighted with black paint in the bottom of the script (if black can be a highlight). The top and bottom bolts are black steel, allen-style, and of undistinguished quality. The adjustment screws are suprisingly small, flathead, disappearing into the flat shoulder of the outside plate of the parallelogram. There's no sign of a year marking anywhere, or any markings other than the script on the face, for that matter.
