I saw my first Stronglight aluminum carterless cranks in 1962 on a Lester Egphgrave bike brought from England by Paul Draper, the original owner. Draper was a modern interpretive dancer, part of the team Paul Draper and Larry Adler (harmonica), driven out of the US by Joe McCarthy and the HUAC Black list in the mid '50s. He spent most of his time in England, France, and Switzerland where his wife came from. Paul was an awesome cyclist; we often road several double centuries a year, mostly with Paul in the lead.
