Subject: [CR]Recommendations Needed: Books ... Maps and Bike Shops

list questionNext May I will take a long needed vacation in California with my wife & daughter.

Besides the compulsory visit to Disneyland and San Francisco, we would like to do a few weeks of bicycle touring, mostly day trips. Shops on the internet are full of bike books and maps. I don't know where to start. Please send recommendations.

We plan to travel between LA to SF including some national parks ... on a tight budget so helpful hints about public transportation would also be helpful.

Here's the classic content: I'll be riding a 1960's Zeus Alfa, my wife will be riding an early 80's Panasonic touring bike (thank you Rod), and our little sweetheart will ride a Trek 400.

These bikes are waiting for us in Santa-Barbara. Some need work, all need tires and a few parts. So, the name of a good, friendly veteran bike shop would be a big help. Thanks,
