Subject: [CR]FS: sturmey-archer alloy body aw (3-speed) hubs

im finally throwing away my superstition that sturmey-archer alloy body hubs build up better wheels than the steel ones, because using them on my work bike, i keep breaking hub flanges about every 2 years. i tore my 4th one the other day, and that was the last straw. its steel with spoke washers from now on.

this is not to say that these hubs arent reliable in less demanding use (50-70 miles a day, 4 days a week, 52 weeks a year + touring mileage is tough on *anything*), and theyre not all *that* common... unless youre in my sturmey-archer drawer.

i have 7 total to sell - 4 i need to swap long axles out of (i use the 6.25" axles rather than the stock 5.75" ones - again something thats not a big deal unless youre using it for heavy work), 2 that need guts (ive got plenty) and 1 that needs to be removed from a wheel.

all are 36 hole, and in varying states of cosmetic order, but all are quite presentable. ill clean the exteriors of all of them before shipping. most have not been used by me, so they dont have tons of mileage on them (outside of whatever they had before i got them...) manufacture stamps range from 1952-54. most are missing the flip-top oil caps, and i dont have any triggers to go with - those im short on.

im thinking $60 each? shipping from california to the east coast via priority mail will be about $9. farther is more, shorter is slightly less. faster is more, slower is less. if you want em ALL, ill sell the lot for $350, shipping would be around $40.

anyone interested? first come first served - nicest looking hubs (cosmetically) go to the earliest buyers...

-joel
