Assmann was an austrian manufacturer of bike parts, maybe somehow connected with the nearby located Puch company(Austro-Daimler). There's an Assmann firm in the same town today (www.assmann.at), that produces metal shop and warehouse equipemnt and offers all types of metal plating, so this might be the same company.

Hey Russ, I bought a 1938 Claud Butler Super Velo from my local charity shop
a few weeks ago and it came with a front brake and lever marked Assmann. I
had to rub away the rust and then rub my eyes to believe what I was reading.
I would guess that the brake was an original fitment. If so it is pre war. I
wonder if the company survived the war? Anybody have any more info?
