This comes from the same dealer from whom I got my Raleigh Competition GS (sound of door slamming and hurried footsteps fading into the distance.....)
All I can say is that it's a headscratcher. I've never heard of Raleigh Competitions (Mark II or the GS) in these colours (it was black only and silver/black for the GS) or Zeus components on a US market Raleigh Competition. The 1970 Gran Sport has a Zeus chainwheel but Huret derailleur. Of course it could easily be a bona fide machine from Europe or the UK. Raleigh's lightweight division had a completely different product line from the late 70s onwards from what we had in the States. And although there was a Mark II Competition c. 1972-1977, what pray tell happened to the Mark I? I sure have never seen one in a catalogue, at least for the US. So perhaps this is a Mark I? Hmmm....
And to be fair, this dealer did try to make good faulty descriptions on what proved to be a "poor" purchase. In the end, as always, there's more blame on the buyer (me) than the seller. Just beware "cobbled" together machines! He does seem to have an inexhaustible supply of 70s-80s lightweights. I am not tempted to exhaust it.
