I have been asked off-list if these wheels were ever tied from the factory.

This is an especially interesting question to me as I too have often wondered if that was done. I've done a mental calculation (did you hear the rumble and see the smoke?!) and believe I have owned a total of 8 sets of the subject wheels. Of them, 6 were tied; of those, one was tied and solderd. I also own a NOS 1975 Peugeot PX10LE, it was not in the box when purchased but was still not fully assembled when purchased. With it was the subject wheels; tied. That would lead me to believe that some at least came from the factory with tied spokes. Can anyone on the list speak with some authority about why so many of these wheelsets had tied spokes and under what circumstances they were tied versus not tied. I also have a lone front wheel, same as discussed, NOS purchased off ebay some time ago - she too has tied spokes.
