Could someone advise if the stack heights of a Campagnolo NR is the same or different than for a SR? If they are different, which I suspect they are, can they still be used interchangeably, will handling be affected, etc?

Thank you,

Eric Elman Somers, CT

Hi Eric: Generally, the interchangeability problems arise from total stack, not from lower stack. The total stacks are: (N)R Strada: 39.1 mm (N)R Pista: 33.7 SR Strada: 42.2 SR Pista: 33.7 GS: 33.7 Later C-Rec, etc.(Strada): 41.4 C-Rec Pista: 38.5 CDA, early Chorus: 41.2 A bazillion other Campag OT 1980s headsets: 39-41 mm. The difference in SR vs. NR lower stack (Strada) is 0.5 mm (15 for SR vs. 14.5 for NR). The difference for both Pistas & GS is zero (all three are 11.4 mm). This info. is all lifted straight from Sutherland's 1990 Fifth Edition, page 14-8. I couldn't function without Sutherland's.... I highly recommend that everyone pick one up if they do even a modicum of their own mechanical work. The 5th Ed. is a good one, but several others work for us vintage "goofs"* almost as well....
