Subject: [CR]Mavic Module E potato chip

I bought a couple of wheels with 700c Mavic Module E rims to use the rims in another project. They looked good, no dents, bumps or flat spots. When I cut them out, one was perfect, the other turned into a "potato chip." It is about 3/8" unflat.

I was able to build the potato chip into a relatively straight wheel, but of course the spoke tension is extremely uneven to compensate for the "chippiness." I would not consider it acceptable.

Is this rim usable? Savable? Fixable? I hate to discard a relatively hard to get Module E, that is cosmetically nice, but if there is no cure, so be it. And why did this happen?

I did find a third Module E rim, so all is not lost if the verdict is bad.

Louis Schulman Tampa, Florida, where I saw someone fly-fishing wading along with 12 alligators. That was interesting.
