One theory is that Cinelli was more interested in selling bars and stems, which have been well represented in the peloton. The thinking being Cinelli did not want to compete directly with all the manufacturers/teams who were using, in effect marketing, their components. The same would seem to apply under Colombo ownership -- manufacturers might not want to buy tubes from a competitor.
