Re the S.J Braham frame, Doug. I worked alongside his son at Camberwell
College in London. Gerry Braham was in Film studies, not a cyclist at all.
He told me his Father, Sydney, was best known for Circus bikes, unicycles
etc. They are a Jewish family. I was not interested in Cycling history at
that time so never quizzed him further.
He told me that he was clearing his fathers' house and that there was an
old BSA motorbike in the garage. Was I interested. I bought Sydney's 1960
250cc BSA C15. Gerry told me the next day that he had been standing in the
garage after I had collected the bike and his Fathers ghost had told him
that he was happy that the bike had gone to a good home. There were loads of
bicycle parts and wheel rims which I left there. I had no interest at the
time! Now I kick myself. I did take lots of nuts, bolts, boxes of nipples,
taps and dies, a spoke roller, Goggles, cable ferrules, most of which were
both usable on motorbikes and now on bicycles. There was a pair of ultra
lightweight goggles which sadly went under a car after they blew off my
crash helmet. I now know that they were probably c1930s cyclists racing
goggles.
Judging by the way all the kit was stored and labelled I am under the
impression that he was a very fastidious man. Perhaps this shows in this
frame.
