As probably everybody on the list knows, not much on the PX-10 on German eBay is original. Gone are the wonderful Stronglight 93 cranks and the somewhat less wonderful Mafac brakes. The thing that most piques my curiosity is that it appears the paint has been stripped off the fork. The top of the fork crown looks like the top of the crown on my own 69 PX-10 ( a daily rider all its "life" andnow a hot rod), but I can't really see the sides of the crown. It's possible that the fork is a replacement, not the original. I can't see the headset to determine if it's the original Stronglight Competition. And, um, er ah, are the head lugs red . . . ? My college German fails me when it comes to trying to read the names of bicycle components (well not just then), but it seems like the seller says that the headset (Steuersatz=headset?) is the original Stronglight Competition. The wheels seeem to be an odd mix of replacement stuff Arc-en Ciel front rim and Shimano hub, Campy Record rear hub and Tamme (a misreading of Fiamme?) rim. It seems to me like he says he has the original Mafac brakes and Simplex seatpost. The bike is no great find unless someone has all those missing original components. If it's like mine, the frame is a great rider, though, and someone in Europe might want it for its riding qualities. As drastically as it's been altered, I can hardly imagine it's worth even the cost of shipping to the States, let alone paying the seller's minimum bid. I've got my eye on a much less expensive deal for a very nice old English frame (that's all we know) that's been hanging in a local shop for four years since the previous owner never showed up to claim it and pay for the repaint . . . I'll have lots of questions for the list when I get it and start building it up. --- David Faulkner, riding my PX-10 (well, not right this minute) in our 34th year together in Sacramento, California
