Dave-

I was way to sensitive about this. I did however do some research before-hand and did not see the rims anywhere, and I mean anywhere (and I check Baron's stock list). When I saw the pair on e-bay, I thought I finally had a chance to get something that if not technically correct was damned close. When I saw that Mr. Gabus (who really does know something about Masi's) was bidding (and seriously), I thought I must be on to the the real deal.

This deal must be worthy of getting me on the "2004 Market Highs" for paying too much... Instead of buying the rest of Baron's stock, I'm thinking there's real volume money in repro Martano stickers!!

Chris,

Sorry to have rained on your parade last night regarding the Martano rims being posted for less $$$ by the same seller, but please note that I did not send you any nasty off-list emails about this. This list is consistently full of discussions about what an item is worth ($4K Masi etc) and when I saw a few "attaboys" related to your purchase, from a few individuals I consider to be quite knowledgeable, I thought it might be best to bring this price discrepancy to everyone's attention. Hey, pie or no pie, you got what you wanted and that's that. There are certainly a few items out there that I'd be willing to pay a crazy-assed price for right now, so I could easily be a member of your club. Perhaps you should buy up all of Baron's $119 Martano rims, hold them for a year or two, then make all of those who snickered at your purchase pay like hell for your remaining stock? Nah, that would just be too cruel......

Thanks for your notes. Your perspective has reinforced my belief that I haven't lost my mind in passionately going after those rims because they were the genuine article, and that I'm not the only one that's occasionally paid too much for something.

Yes Chris,

They do. Unfortunately there are a select few on this list who seem to abuse list rules, post tons of "atta-boys", post tons of arrogant crap, and just fill everyone's mail box with junk mail. They know who they are.

Those Martano rims you bought are first class and as any Masi owner knows, are "the ones" for Masi. What you paid for those rims is of no one's business.

I would encourage you to hang in there as you will meet some really cool, down-to-earth people on this list.

Where we had a very happy Thanksgiving. As a prelude to the meal itself, one of my brothers (who is a vegetarian) stood up and gave a ten-minute speech as to why our family should be ashamed of ourselves for having a dead bird on the table and then tried to calculate the amount of turkeys slaughtered so that we Americans could all commit the deadly sin of "gluttony." With every slice old Dad carved with his shaking hands I couldn't help but to look over at my bro and laugh!
