Nearly as silly as the headbadge were the PX-10 #s for several years stamped on a thin metal strip riveted to the BB. Of course it didn't matter much, since no one seems to be able to make any sense of Peugeot serial #s anyway. My 1952 (as I'm trying to verify) Claud Butler doesn't seem to have a serial # on the frame itself, but I'm told there should be one on the steerer. Trouble is, the HS locknut doesn't seem to fit any HS wrench I have. Anyone know what size these old English HS's were? (English rather than metric I imagine.) I'll probably have to ty to find a large English open-end wrench at the hardware store or maybe resort to a crescent wrench. Also, I note that the lower "fixed" cup has wrench flats and seems to rotate on the steerer. Has someone used cups too small for the headtube, or were 50's HS's designed that way? This is the first complete bike from the early 50's I have owned, and it's becoming an educational experience.

Always amazed by how much I get accomplished down in the bike dungeon when the out-laws come to visit over a long holiday weekend. This visit presented the perfect opportunity to finally start playing with a patiently waiting project, in hopes of taking it out for a ride before the snow piles up, and maybe even having it presentable in time for the Cirque. (Standard Disclaimer "Hey, I did NOT say Cirque 2005").

It's a Reg Harris Professional, early 60s, that appeared on ebay a while back and eventually, indirectly, found a permanent home at the Mountain Rust Retirement Home for Wayward Brit-Bikes. Was puzzled by the absence of a serial number in the usual obvious locations, but eventually found a simple 4-digit number that might pass for a SN, stamped on the front of the steerer tube. Just strikes me as an astoundingly inconvenient location for a serial number. Prior to this discovery, the silliest location I had seen was stamped onto a head badge. (Easy to read, but equally easy to remove.). While we may have a new winner in the silliest location for a serial number competition, the real question for our studio audience is, has anybody else out there run into this before on any other brand? Just curious.

And the second question, and the big money question, is there anybody else out there with pre-Viking/Lambert Reg knowledge and /or bike to compare notes with? This one is a little different from the Pro described in the road test article on CR. Any additional info on the Reg bikes would be greatly appreciated.
