I think they are an eye-catching design. i mean how many coins in the fork crown do you see besides on these? i wasn't too fond of them at first but they kind of grew on me for their 'unusualness'.
They seem to only be found on the 'super record stradas' from 78-83. the 'professionals' that came out after, have "Gios" etched, engraved (whatever that's called) on the fork crown, the pre-78 models have the gios emblem in the fork crown. and the aerodynamic doesn't have anything on the fork crown.

Ahoy !
Photos in the CR site show Gios with medallions in the fork crown. What is the reason for the medallions? Commemorative? Special model ? Eye-catching design feature?
Thanks.
