the snake and sceptre(?) thing represent the marque of the city of milan - or sometin' like that. many firms glommed it for their logos. the head decal on my 71s were replaced with a more ovalized version and <that> version was also used on early calmasis. here's one for you: on my two 71 models - yes, mike c i have two - TWO!!! - there are 6 flags on the head decal yet there are nine on the down tube decal. i mean - wassup there? 3 countries did not make the cut?! dang. the next gen of decals lost all flags on the head but added ANOTHER 3 on the down tube. a very u thant-ish move if you ax me. pics are here: http://www.classicrendezvous.com/Italy/Masi/Masi_RS2.htm

Matteo, Another interesting head badge! I've lost count now. I've looked at so many today. I'd forgotten about the ones on Richard Sach's two GCs, which are really nice, and I've always liked the one as shown on the CR Masi Italy site, the blue urn one, that I had put on Tom Sander's 3V(It is some kind of special urn, right? Can anyone describe all the components on these nice badges, and the stuff on Richards?) And also, given these oh-so-nice priors, can anyone tell me the origins of why all the American-built GCs, ever since '73 I presume, came with the less-complete-looking-to-thine-eyes head-badge decals?
