Doug, I am also posting this on the CR site. Hope either you are or other list members can throw some light on this frame builder. J.W.Long known as Jimmy was a popular East London cylists in the 40's & 50's. He started building frames and wheel building about this time. His premises were located in a workshop set in a yard at the rear of his house in Gordon Road just of the Leyton High Road, Stratford end. He built both lugless and lugged frames to a very high standard. The reason I am asking is I have recently got hold of 5" steel sloping track extension. This is wonderfully made and has a Hetchins Magnum opus type embellishments. It's going on my Stuart Purves NO.1 track iron. Jimmy Longs work is the equal to any of the Ephgraves, Spanner Rensch, Purves or Hetchins work I have seen! Regarding your Hobbs. I have a lot of Hobbs literature and I can probably help with the Sportweight. Vic Miller was Hobbs builder for many years and he operated from a shed at the back of St. Marys church in Ilford. London and especially East London was awash with builders sadly now all gone.

Yours in cycling. Michael Butler Huntingdon UK.
