I think what Chuck is pointing out is simply this...your walking down the isle of your local book store and you see this title on a book...

Japanese Super Power Defeated!

Complimentary? Sort of "defeats" the intended compliment .

We love our Japanese bike brothers, :-).

I took it just the opposite, Chuck. I thought Tom was complimenting the enthusiasm of the Japanese collectors, saying that it is a rare achievement to outbid them on something rare and desirable. I know that on the very rare occasions when I have actually outbid the redoubtable Kauzo, I was amazed at having been able to do so.

Tom, I'm troubled by the tone of your post.

A real "us vs. them" thing. Many of these "bidders" are members of the CR list just like you and I. The CR list has a very international make up nowadays unlike when it first started and was mostly Americans.

I'm sure you meant it in a joking way, but posting "Japanese Super Power Defeated!" strikes me as more than slightly jingoistic and insulting.
