What we did out here in the Los Angeles area was to put in place a monthly vintage bike ride that falls on the same day of every month and follows the same route every month. This way the ride doesn't require an organizer, ride leader, route sheets, etc.

This ride has been going on every month for more than five years now. Some months we get no riders because of torrential rains (I know, hard to believe) and other months we might get 20 or so riders. But every month there is The Rose Bowl Vintage Ride to go to whether anyone shows up or not.
