I have two of these Bailen's Bicycle Buckets as they were originally marketed. The logo was a bearded fellow with an actual bucket on his head! I guess about 1974. They seemed like good helmets, but no ventilation and no certifications from Snell etc.
See U.S. Patent 3,935,044 and 4,051,555 at the http://www.uspto.gov website.

some of the history of it. It is a new 30 year old Bailen cycle helmet made
E.D Bullard Co for the Bailen Helmet Company under Daly US Patent
No- - - - - . It just so happens that the Daly Patent Holder was Noel Daly,
Berys' father. Hal Bailen was the first to take up rights to us her fathers
patents for helmet designs in the U.S. and he got Bullards involved in doing
the manufacturing. We also found among the family stuff a wall plaque from
E.D.Bullard and Co of Sausalito Ca presented to Noel Daly in recognition of
the assistance he gave them. Do you know anything of either company or their
history. Do you still see Bailen helmets or are they out of business? The
patents expired in the 80's so we do not get royalties unfortunately. Just
thought it was interesting to find a U.S. made bike helmet designed by a New
Zealander. Cheers, Ian.
