Harvey Sachs is correct, I was thinking of the "Skid Lid" helmet which was almost worse than nothing at all. There is a good history of the development of Helmets, which identifies the MSR and Bell helmets as the first ones on the U.S. Market in 1972, with Bailen to follow later in the 1970's with a "one size fits all" design.
