Bob, you've touched on an interesting trend.

Guys getting custom KotF bikes made for themselves are outfitting them with the very last generations of Campagnolo ergo groups with aluminum everything before the carbon onslaught. (Maybe this stuff will be CR on-topic in another twenty years?)

If I was getting a full custom lugged steel KotF frame made today, I'd hotrod the components by profiling and polishing them (remove all the anodization and leave everything polished aluminum with no logos). I've even seen photos of very recent Shimano and Campagnolo groups where guys have drilled holes in the parts like the old drillium days!!! Retro-ness like the current VW Bug and BMW Mini...
