Dan,

I think Douglas Brooks posted a response and stated that he liked the Simplex teardrop retrofrictions best based on style, but that the (off topic) Campy C-Record retrofrictions were functionally the best. Note that there are two versions of these, one where both levers are the same and a later model where the rear shifter has a larger diameter cable barrel (pulls more cable).
