Dale,
Good for you! I REALLY appreciate you comming out and calling a spade a spade. The real vintage framebuilders ARE on the verge of extinction. Those trying to capitalize on the classics and the vintage interest are VERY annoying to the people who are truely dedicated and suffer long and hard to maintain the real deal.
Dale, YOU ROCK!! Thanks for removing the wool from the eyes of the gullible. I just had to respond to this as I try to clear out over 800 past emails.
Brian Baylis La Mesa, CA Far to busy to keep up with the list; busy working at what most of us are just talking about.

Watch out, Ricki! Here it comes!
<< Dario scouts all over Europe for vintage parts ... >>
Hog wash! Most, if not all, of that stuff is readily available from multiple USA suplliers so it's got to be even more so in Europe (?) In any case, what a load of shameless hype. Last year he said he had a limited edition because the parts were no longer available. I am pretty sure Euro Asia and Nova Cycle Supply still have hundreds of 1010B drop outs in stock. (Those are the only truly vintage parts he uses)
<< "The "new", custom Luiginos will be different because........(snip)......... The lugs are the key since Dario says they are not investment cast in the same way as modern ones. >>
Gargle gasp glurp! Hog wash! They ARE modern lugs, made in Taiwan! Same ones used by DeRosa and who knows who else, readily available from Ceeway in the UK and Bringheli in the USA!
<< I've never quite fully followed his description but in order to use the modern tubing (this bike is Deda), you'd need "modern" diameter lugs. >>
1 1/8" dia (modern) tubing needs 1 /8" lug sockets. Same as Rivendell, Sachs, Waterford, etc.
<< the old fork crown (though I am not sure of its origin, I am sure it is Italian). >>
Modern, pretty darn cool but made especially for him in Taiwan
<< The lugs are simple, crisp with good shorelines, not filed thin thin (as was the fashion in the 80s particularly)"
I.e., less handwork. Specially with investment cast lugs, which he barely has to touch. Doh.
Ricki, I hate to be a meanie but you fall for his hype, hook, line and sinker!!! His frames are really nice but he bolognas it so deep that it kills me!
<< "Anyway my incoming frame will be painted in the old Legnano colors, Dario having gone to the current Bianchi factory (who now own the old Legnano stuff) to check out the versions of this famous color. This was above and beyond, but typical of Dario who is a thoughtful and gifted builder..." >>
Arrgghh. I don't know why but this hyperbolic pandering galls me no end! He is "thoughtful" all right! In exagerative ways to market himself to this niche of vintage prone bike buffs. Help help! I am drowning in syruppy, fawning glop! Glug glug!
