Ah well, since ya asked (seems I always find myself responding to Chuck's posts :)
Here is a PIC of a 1977 Super Record rear derailleur, clearly showing it to
be of the OLDER body style (that we have been referring to as "1st Gen."), and
of course, with the older jockey bolt arrangement as well. Note this model
has titanium pivot bolts, and already has the black plastic screw covers in
place:

And here is a PIC of two previously mentioned 1979 Super Record rear
derailleurs, clearly showing them to be of the NEWER body style (that we have been
referring to as "2nd Gen"), but still with the older N.R. style of jockey bolt
threaded into aluminum back plate. Note these models have aluminum pivot bolts:

I'm fairly certain that I have seen photos of both the new body, AND old body Sup. Rec. rears from 1978, but I cannot be certain.
Anyone have one with "PATENT-78" on the upper body?
So, if the jockey securing bolt arrangement changed (and we now know it was no earlier than 1979), would that mark the 3rd Gen.?
I have a PATENT-81 here, and it has the newer jockey bolt arrangement with the flush screw head on the back side, and the nut on the front side.
Anyone have one with "PATENT-80" on the upper body?

(Early second-gen. ones in 1978 had aluminum pivots, and the "old," bolt-from-the-front side-into-rear-pulley-cage-threads design...).
I'd say the year of introduction of the 2nd generation of SR derailleur with script logo would be 1977 not 1978.
Campagnolo Timeline http://www.velo-retro.com : 1977 Catalog #17a Supplement is printed for the year-end trade shows. Included are a revised Super Record derailleur with script logo and different cage geometry, single bolt Nuovo Super Record seat post, Record front derailleur with four holes in cage (later to be three holes), straight-band clamp (later to revert to traditional pointed-band clamp), short Nuovo Record dropouts without eyelets (drilled and tapped for chain holder), chain holder with accompanying control lever and trigger, and fixing shoe-plate for pedals.
Anyone have one with "Pat 77" on the upper body?
