Actually, Kauzo shows most of the Simplex skewer types side-by-side on his web site.

I took it just the opposite, Chuck. I thought Tom was complimenting the enthusiasm of the Japanese collectors, saying that it is a rare achievement to outbid them on something rare and desirable. I know that on the very rare occasions when I have actually outbid the redoubtable Kauzo, I was amazed at having been able to do so.

That's how I read it, too.... suffice to say that the Japanese have perfected the traditional male role as hunter-gatherer. We should all have married Japanese women... their forbearance as wives under such circumstances is doubtless remarkable.
When I was last in Japan a Japanese friend also pointed out another major passion: Austin Mini Coopers. And this was well before the remake. As Anglophiles, they have no equals but fortunately this hasn't translated into bikes as much. Or has it? I rather suspect Hilary Stone has shipping fees to Japan guestimated to the last shilling by now.
Anyway thanks for these websites all... very interesting indeed. But I am disappointed there isn't one devoted to Simplex skewers. Someone in Japan there is a room bursting at the seam with them.
