i disassembled both axles. the lockrings holding the bodies to the hub look quite similar at first glance. they both have 8 splines about 1.5mm wide. i first have to get the remover-tool you pointed me and ill have a try next weekend! i let you know if i succeed!
i totally agree with tom regarding shimano compatability. my EX 6-sp rear derailer even works with 9sp HG cassettes when i use the apropriate narrow chain! i won't complain when 25 years later i still can buy more or less matching new parts! where else in industry can you get that? and besides you still get nos parts on the web or even at local dealers.
