I stand corrected. Jan's right. Rarity must be paired with desirability. I guess I just assumed that pairing without stating it outright.

And Jan's comment above is a practical example of one without the other...if, for the sake of argument, the Victory cranks are not as common as NR cranks (although Campagnolo must have made a pile of Victory cranks for all those price-point bikes), then they should be more desirable. There's just one problem: They're really ugly. One of the ugliest cranks I ever saw in my life. And I suspect I'm not alone, since it seems almost impossible to GIVE these cranks away.

So, there ya go. No accounting for taste. Again.
